The most common mistake in palm care across North Chicago, IL is over-trimming removing green fronds that are still actively photosynthesizing. Green fronds feed the palm and provide weight stability in high winds.
Removing them stresses the palm, slows growth, narrows the trunk (a condition called pencil-pointing), and actually increases storm vulnerability. Getting this right from the start is critical to your palms' long-term health.

What most North Chicago, IL property owners don't realize is that palms are monocots more closely related to grasses than to broadleaf trees and their biology demands an entirely different approach to care. A palm has a single growing point at its crown called the meristem. Damage to this growing point is often fatal and always irreversible.
This is precisely why palm work should only be trusted to technicians with specific palm training. General tree services without palm-specific knowledge pose a real risk to your palms.
The consequences of improper palm trimming in North Chicago, IL compound over time. A palm that has been repeatedly over-trimmed develops a permanently weakened trunk section that cannot bear the weight of a healthy crown.

Our technicians are trained in the biology and care requirements of the full range of palm species common to our region from Queen and King Palms to Canary Island Date Palms, Washingtonia palms, and everything in between.
