Tree Cutting Services in Orchard Hills, PA
The fundamental ability of professional arboriculture is cutting trees. The method used for each cut determines the safety of the process and the quality of the result, regardless of whether a tree needs to be felled in a single controlled drop, sectionally deconstructed from the crown down, or cut in pieces utilizing crane-assisted extraction. Every service in Orchard Hills, PA is completed by skilled, seasoned employees of Greater Pitt Tree Service who are knowledgeable about the mechanics of tree felling.
The entire spectrum of cutting techniques used in expert tree care is covered by our tree cutting services. We undertake sectional cutting for trees next to buildings or with restricted drop zones, directional felling for trees in open places with enough clearance, and rigged sectional dismantling for trees in tight locations where each piece must be controlled as it descends. For trees that are too big or damaged for conventional climbing-based sections removal, crane-assisted cutting is an option.
A thorough site evaluation that considers the tree's lean, the state of the root system, the quality of the wood, any adjacent obstructions, and the safest order of cuts is the first step in all of our cutting operations. Since careful planning is essential to preventing mishaps and property damage during the actual cutting operation, we never rush the planning stage.
Tree Cutting Methods and When Each Is Used
Selecting the correct cutting method is as important as the cutting itself. Different site conditions, tree sizes, and proximity to structures dictate which approach is appropriate:
- Directional felling: used for trees with adequate clearance in the fall zone, using notch and back cut technique to place the tree precisely
- Sectional crown removal followed by trunk cutting: used for most trees near structures, beginning at the top and working downward in manageable sections
- Rigged sectional cutting: used in confined spaces where sections are rigged and lowered with ropes and friction devices rather than allowed to fall freely
- Crane-assisted removal: used for large, structurally compromised, or exceptionally confined trees where crane control is the only safe option
- Stump cutting and flush work: precision cutting of remaining stumps to ground level before grinding, or cutting of root flares for site preparation
Safety Practices on Every Tree Cutting Job
Tree cutting is statistically one of the most hazardous occupational activities, and we take safety seriously on every job regardless of size or apparent simplicity. Our safety program includes pre-job hazard assessments, established crew safety zones, personal protective equipment standards, and trained climbers who follow ANSI Z133 safety standards for arborist operations.
We establish clear communication protocols between climbers and ground crew before any cutting begins. Each section cut follows a predetermined plan with designated landing zones and rigging points. Equipment is inspected before every job, and we do not use worn or damaged tools that could compromise cut quality or safety margins.
Our insurance coverage, including both general liability and workers compensation, protects you as the property owner from liability arising from any incident on your property during the cutting operation. We do not cut corners on safety to save time, and we are not the company to call if you are looking for the absolute lowest price with no questions asked about how the work will be done.
